Gymnastics: Gold Team Takes Intrasquad Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Gold team edged the Blue team 7-4 in the final rotation to win, 23-20, at the WVU gymnastics team’s annual intrasquad meet this evening before 553 fans at the WVU Coliseum.
Each gymnast received one point for a hit routine and one point for a stuck dismount by the meet’s judges.
The Gold team secured the victory with a strong beam rotation, highlighted by freshman Jenn Sharon’s performance in her first meet as a Mountaineer.
The Blue team led the Gold team, 7-5, after one rotation. Junior Chelsi Tabor excelled for the Blue team, earning two points on the vault with a stuck landing, while senior Mehgan Morris and sophomore Naja Johnson were strong for the Gold team, earning two points each on bars with solid routines.
The Gold team, anchored by sophomore Amy Bieski, earned seven points on vault and overtook the Blue team in the second rotation, 12-9. Junior Ashley Wilson and sophomore Jessica Young helped the Blue team earn three points on bars.
The teams finished the third rotation tied at 16-16, with the Gold team picking up four points on the floor, and the Blue team earning seven points on beam.
The Mountaineers open their regular season at four-time defending NCAA Champion Georgia on Friday, Jan. 9, at 7:30 p.m., at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.
