GAME NOTES
PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- West Virginia University's women's basketball team (11-6, 0-4) takes on No. 21/23 Rutgers (10-5, 2-2) Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the RAC.
West Virginia is coming off a heartbreaking loss at Villanova this past Saturday - a 54-52 setback that saw the Mountaineers have a 13-point second half lead with 16 minutes to go in the contest. Rutgers is coming off a 76-53 rout of Marquette yesterday at home.
Takisha Granberry and Liz Repella pace the Mountaineer attack with 16.2 and 16.1 points per game, respectively. Rutgers's Epiphanny Prince leads the Scarlet Knights with a 20.5 points per game average.
The two schools have met every year since 1980, with Rutgers holding a sizeable 37-10 series advantage. The two former A-10 opponents joined the BIG EAST in 1995-96 and Rutgers leads the all-time regular season series at 10-6. However, the Scarlet Knights are just 5-4 against Mike Carey-led WVU teams since 2001-02, including a 63-54 setback to the Mountaineers last year in Morgantown. The WVU victory over then-No. 4 Rutgers marked the highest-ranked team the Mountaineers had defeated in program history.
MSN radio, with Travis Jones on the call, will air the contest on MSN affiliated stations.
