GREENVILLE, N.C. - West Virginia game notes following the Mountaineers' 24-3 loss to East Carolina Saturday evening at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium:
Game Captains: Mountaineer game captains against ECU were senior wide receiver Dorrell Jalloh, senior kicker Chris Glenn, senior defensive lineman Pat Liebig and senior linebacker John Holmes. Coach Bill Stewart will select game captains each week. Team captains will be elected at the end of the regular season.
For Starters: Defensive back Sydney Glover was the lone first-time starter for the Mountaineers against the Pirates. A total of 34 Mountaineers have now at least one game of starting experience led by senior offensive lineman Ryan Stanchek (36), senior quarterback Pat White (32), junior offensive lineman Greg Isdaner (27) and senior offensive lineman Jake Figner (27). All of Stanchek and Isdaner’s starts are consecutive, and White has started 16-straight.
Moving Up in the NCAA Record Book: With his 97 rushing yards against the Pirates, quarterback Pat White moved up two spots to fourth place on the NCAA’s career quarterback rushing list. He passed Kareem Wilson (Ohio, 1995-98) and Dee Dowis (Air Force, 1986-89). He now boasts 5,666 career rushing yards.
Career Total Offense: With his 179 yards of total offense at East Carolina, Patrick White became the first Mountaineer in school history to surpass 8,000 yards in that category. He now boasts 8,163 total offensive yards in his career.
McAfee Moves Up: With his 26-yard field goal in the second quarter, Pat McAfee moved into second place on WVU’s career kick scoring list, now showing 312 career points. Paul Woodside (1981-84) is WVU’s all-time career kick scoring leader with 323.
Halftime Deficit: West Virginia’s 14-point halftime deficit marked the largest WVU has trailed since Louisville 17-0 on Oct. 15, 2005. The Mountaineers won that game 46-44 in three overtimes. The 14-point deficit marked the largest for the Mountaineers during the starting career of Pat White. The largest previous deficit was a 14-3 deficit at USF last season and versus Georgia Tech in the 2007 Gator Bowl (28-17).
The Last Time: The last time WVU was held without a touchdown in a contest was in a 45-3 loss at Miami, Oct. 25, 2001.
