MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team checks in at No. 11 and 13 in the latest collegiate soccer polls. The Mountaineers jumped to No. 11 in today’s National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas poll and moved up to No. 13 in the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz polls.
West Virginia, unbeaten in its last seven contests, owns a 6-1-2 record after nine matches with its only loss coming to Santa Clara.
Defender Greer Barnes picked up her second and third award of the week, being named to Soccer Buzz and Soccer America’s Team of the Week today. She was also named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
A Rye, N.Y., native, Barnes guided WVU to consecutive shutouts in a 4-0 rout against Pitt on Sept. 18 and a 3-0 blanking of No. 6 Virginia on Sept. 21. Barnes and the Mountaineer defense held their opponents to just five shots on-goal in the wins, including three from a powerful Virginia offense.
The Mountaineers return to action at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25, at St. John’s in their first BIG EAST road contest of the season.
