MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second consecutive year, the West Virginia University Gymnastics team has lent its support to the Light the Night fundraiser benefiting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Prior to the walk, held Sept. 20 at the WVU Coliseum, the Mountaineers helped set-up the pre-walk celebration and interacted with patients from the WVU Children’s Hospital.
“Volunteering at Light The Night last year was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding community service projects the squad has done during my four-year career,” says senior and team co-captain Mehgan Morris. “The team thought it would be good to volunteer again this year because the patients enjoyed the time so much last year, and so did we.”
“The WVU gymnastics team was so helpful last year,” says Chris Phillips, Fayette County and Mountaineer Area Walks organizer. “The team is very mature and conscience. They are just wonderful.”
Participants at the night-walk carry softly-lighted balloons in remembrance of both cancer survivors and loved ones. In 2007, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society raised $30 million dollars at over 200 national events.
