Rifle: Hammond Announces Finalized 2008-09 Slate

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia rifle Head Coach Jon Hammond has announced the addition of two late-season home matches to the 2008-09 schedule.
The Mountaineers will host Akron on Jan. 31 and Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) foe Tennessee Tech on Feb. 7. Both matches will begin at 8 a.m. at the WVU Rifle Range.
“I’m pleased that our schedule has been finalized and now includes matches with Akron and Tennessee Tech,” Hammond says. “Overall, this is a very good looking schedule with some tough matches.”
Additionally, the Mountaineers will participate in the NCAA Qualifiers at Kentucky on Feb. 14 at 8 a.m.
WVU returns four All-Americans from a year ago and opens its 2008-09 season against Ohio State on Oct. 4 at 8 a.m. at the WVU Rifle Range.
The Mountaineers flourished under third-year head coach and 2008 Olympian Jon Hammond last season. The squad finished with an 8-3 record and in third place at the GARC Championships. WVU also took sixth at the NCAA Championships, its first appearance in the national tournament after a six-year absence.
