MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University redshirt freshman, and Morgantown, W.Va., native Ahna Lewis has been named the BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office this afternoon.
Lewis was the first collegiate runner, and second overall across the finish line at the Old Nassau Run, hosted by Princeton University, on Saturday, Sept. 13. Lewis finished with a time of 21:53.10, in the 6K race, a career-best, to lead the Mountaineers to a fourth place finish.
A total of 145 runners from 13 different universities participated in the event at the Princeton Cross Country course. The course is the same venue the Mountaineers will see at the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 15.
Lewis is the first runner from WVU to be named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week. This season marks the first for the weekly award, as the conference will honor one male and one female based on individual efforts. This is the second honor of the week for Lewis, as she was named the West Virginia Athlete of the Week on Monday, Sept. 15.
The Mountaineers have a two-week hiatus before the team will race in the Paul Short Invitational held in Bethlehem, Pa., on Oct. 3. The race is set to begin at 2 p.m.
