MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team (2-5) fell to in-state rival Marshall (5-3) tonight at the WVU Coliseum.
The Thundering Herd defeated the Mountaineers in a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 23-25, 25-16, 16-9) match.
“It was a disappointing loss,” says Head Coach Veronica Hammersmith. “We had our chances to win, but we couldn’t get it done. Marshall played a good game.”
Despite the loss, freshman outside hitter Kylie Armbruster posted a career high 21 kills to lead the Mountaineers. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Jones followed with 32 assists, while sophomore libero Bonnie West led the team in digs with 22.
The Mountaineers will return to action at the WVU Coliseum on Sunday, Sept. 14. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
