MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team is set to begin its fall season with the Blue/Gold Challenge on Aug. 31- Sept.1 at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts.
“We are excited to watch the kids and they are excited to play,” says Head Coach Marc Walters. “It is a lot of pressure but they are ready to compete. It may be the most challenging event of the season because they are competing for spots.”
The Blue/Gold Challenge will begin on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. The intrasquad meet is a biannual event in which the players compete for starting positions.
Each player will have the opportunity to compete in two individual and two doubles events each day.
The Mountaineers ended the 2007-08 season with a 13-12, 5-4 BIG EAST record, while finishing 10th in the conference for the second consecutive year.
Up next, the Mountaineers travel to Brevard, N.C., for the Brevard Invite on Friday, Sept. 5. Teams in the competition include Coastal Carolina, UNC-Asheville, Western Carolina and UNC-Charlotte.
