MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to Maryland tomorrow evening, Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m., for its lone exhibition match of the 2008 season.
The Mountaineers were recently tabbed preseason favorites to win the BIG EAST American Division title, garnering nine of the 15 first-place votes in voting done by the league’s head coaches.
West Virginia is led by four preseason All-BIG EAST players in seniors Amanda Cicchini, Greer Barnes and Deana Everrett, and junior Carolyn Blank.
The Mountaineers return seven starters as they look to defend their BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles. Nikki Izzo-Brown begins her 13th season in charge of the Mountaineers and has led her teams to eight straight NCAA tournament appearances.
WVU’s season-opener is slated for Friday, Aug. 22, against Towson. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
