Eric Steege enters his second season with the Mountaineers as a volunteer assistant. Steege helps in all aspects of the WVU men’s soccer program including, training sessions and on game-days.
The Madison, Wis., native, played the last three years on the semi-pro Princeton 56e4s NPSL team, coached by Jim Launder. The team was the Midwest Division Champions and National Championship runner-up in 2006 and 2007.
Steege currently is an undergraduate lecturer in sports psychology at WVU and will earn his Ph. D. in sport and exercise psychology in 2010.
An assistant women’s coach in 2006-07 at Edgewood College, Steege worked under head coach Tim Alexander and assisted with practice design, strength and conditioning programs, scouting and recruiting.
From 2004-07, Steege was the head varsity girl’s soccer coach at Sauk Prairie High. There he led the team from a 4-14-2 record in his first season to a 14-6-4 record and a state regional championship in his third season.
Steege is a 2004 graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., where he earned a bachelor of arts in psychology and a bachelor of arts in biology. Steege graduated Magna Cum Laude with a concentration in Neuroscience. He has published two articles in Soccer America and has presented twice at the US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop in Pittsburgh this past summer.
He resides in Morgantown.
