The newest member of the West Virginia women’s soccer staff is Stefani Workman, who enters her first season as goalkeeper coach. The former Morehead State goalkeeper will also assist in the daily office tasks within the soccer program.
Workman brings BIG EAST experience with her to WVU after spending the past three years as an assistant coach at Cincinnati. She held a variety of responsibilities with the Bearcats, including goalkeeper training, recruiting, team travel, video analysis, academic assistance and community service. Under the guidance of Workman, UC goalie Andrea Kaminski earned multiple player of the week honors for her play in 2006 and 2007.
As a player, Workman was a four-year starter in goal at Morehead State (2001-04). As a senior in 2004, she guided her Eagles team to an Ohio Valley Conference tournament appearance. A two-time Ohio Valley Conference player of the week, Workman totaled 80 saves and a 1.26 goals against average in her final season.
While at Morehead, Workman worked extensively with the Kentucky Youth Olympic Development Program. She also spent time at the Region II ODP Development Group in Illinois in 2005, training goalkeepers.
Over the past three summers, Workman has trained goalkeepers in the prestigious SoccerPlus Camps and Ohio Youth Soccer League’s Metro United squad as the technical trainer.
Workman recently earned her advanced national goalkeeping license, the highest level of education for goalkeeper coaches. She also holds NSCAA Goalkeeping State, Regional and National Diplomas, as well as a USSF Youth National “C” License.
A native of Poca, W.Va., Workman was named the 2000 West Virginia Soccer Coaches goalkeeper of the year. A four-year starter at Poca High, she was named to the all-state team four times, including first-team recognition in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Workman played club soccer for West Virginia United (formerly Soccer Vision Academy) from 1999-2001.
Workman graduated from MSU in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in corporate exercise science. She is currently pursing a master’s degree in athletic coaching education from WVU.
