MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will entertain the Kentucky Wildcats on Thursday, Sept. 11, as part of the Fox Soccer Channel (FSC) and National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Soccer Game of the Week. The match is now slated for 8 p.m. at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
"This is a great opportunity for West Virginia women’s soccer to be seen across the country," says Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown. "We are excited to be a part of this event and are thrilled that the NSCAA and Fox Sports Channel were able to include us in such a great group of games."
This year’s contest with Kentucky marks the second meeting between the two programs. The Mountaineers won the 2004 match, 3-2, in Lexington, Ky.
The FSC Game of the Week match is one of four home events that are slated for television this season. The Mountaineers will play two matches on West Virginia PBS – Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m., against Syracuse, and Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m., against Villanova. WVU’s tussle with Connecticut will be shown on ESPNU on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 2 p.m.
West Virginia resumes preseason workouts until its lone exhibition match at Maryland on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers return seven starters this season as they look to defend their BIG EAST regular season and tournament titles. Izzo-Brown begins her 13th season in charge of the Mountaineers and has led her teams to eight straight NCAA tournament appearances.
