Baseball: Gyorko Named Frosh All-American

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University freshman Jedd Gyorko has been named to the Rivals.com 32-man Freshman All-America second team today.
The honor marks the third Freshman All-America team awarded to the Morgantown native. Gyorko is only one of two BIG EAST players to be named to the Rivials.com roster.
Gyorko closed his freshman campaign with a .409 batting average, including 17 doubles, eight home runs (two grand slams) and 63 RBIs. The second baseman started all 56 games for the Mountaineers.
Gyorko was named the 2008 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, ECAC Rookie of the Year, All-BIG EAST second team, and was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team. Gyorko also was named to the Pro-Line Athletic/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) 2008 Freshman All-America first team, NCBWA All-America second team, and most recently named the team’s Rookie of the Year earlier this month by Head Coach Greg Van Zant.
