Baseball: Agreste Collects Summer League Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University baseball player Joe Agreste was named Valley League Baseball Player of the Week after compiling a .529 average in 17 at-bats for the Winchester Royals.
Agreste, a returning senior and an all-BIG EAST third team member at first base, had two home runs, five RBIs, three doubles, six runs scored and nine hits during the week of July 7-13. He also had a slugging percentage of 1.059 and recorded a .529 on-base percentage.
Returning as one of the top power hitters in the BIG EAST, Agreste had an impressive .369 batting average with six home runs and 45 RBIs last season for the Mountaineers. His .620 slugging percentage was second on the team to Tyler Kuhn (.660).
Agreste led the Valley League last week in batting average and tied for first in runs scored during his torrid four-game stretch. He is now batting .284 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in 74 at-bats while helping guide the Royals to a 20-15 record.
The Chesapeake, Va., native is also joined by fellow Mountaineers Austin Markel (Luray), Mark Dvoroznak (Waynesboro), Chris Enourato (Waynesboro), Grant Buckner (Waynesboro), Andrew Scherer (Waynesboro) and Jordon Yost (Luray) in the Valley League.
