MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – If you have been bringing your RV to West Virginia University home football games and parking it at the WVU Coliseum, you need to pay close attention. This year the Coliseum lot will no longer be free to RV users.
That’s just one of several changes being adopted by the West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics this fall. According to Game-Day Parking Director Joyce Bucklew, the decision to charge $40 to RV users parking at the Coliseum this year was simply a means of better policing the area around the Coliseum.
Bucklew said there will be a dedicated area in the Coliseum for RV users to park, most likely near the Arboretum where they will have easier access to rest rooms and the stadium shuttle service.
“They will pay as they come in and will be issued a special pass that they will be required to display in their vehicles at all times,” Bucklew said.
Bucklew also encourages fans bringing RVs to Milan Puskar Stadium to arrive at the designated times.
“We have had RVs arrive an hour or two before the game and there is no way we can accommodate them with the number of people in the area at that time,” Bucklew said.
Other changes taking place this year include: the discontinuation of the Pink lot passes, a price increase to $20 for cars parking in the Gold and Purple lots and the addition of a paved area with lined parking in what used to be the grass area adjacent to the Milan Puskar Center.
Bucklew said the addition of lined parking in that area will allow for a much more controlled atmosphere.
Niles Eggleston, assistant athletic director and executive director of the Mountaineer Athletic Club, said the large increase in MAC contributors necessitated the expansion of the Blue lot. A donor needs to contribute at the Director level to have the opportunity to purchase a Blue lot parking pass.
Eggleston said that MAC has also changed its Silver lot policy.
“The Silver lot is available on a renewal basis to Champion level donors,” Eggleston explained.
All new donors wishing to park in the Silver lot must contribute at the Gold Scholar level.
Eggleston said the change in parking policy was a simple matter of supply and demand.
“The overcrowding in our lots, which is a great problem to have with so many people supporting the Mountaineer Athletic Club and earning the right to purchase those parking passes,” Eggleston said. “It’s only fair to provide equity to our donors and provide the best service that we can to those who are making the appropriate donations.”
Eggleston believes these changes will ultimately improve customer service.
