MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University second baseman Jedd Gyorko has been named to the 2008 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Baseball Team recently released by Collegiate Baseball.
Gyroko closed his freshman campaign with a batting average of .409, registered 95 hits, including 17 doubles and eight home runs (two grand slams), with 63 RBIs. The Morgantown, W.Va., native was named the 2008 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, and was named to the All-BIG EAST second team, as well, by the league last month.
Gyroko is the second Mountaineer to be named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team in school history; Adam White earned the honor in 2006. He is one of just seven from the BIG EAST to earn the honor this year.
