MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men’s soccer Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc announced the signing of Declan Coll to a letter of intent and grant-in aid for the 2008-09 academic year.
A native of Derry, Northern Ireland, Coll was a starting playmaker for six seasons at St. Columb’s College and participated in the Northern Ireland Schools Cup at every age group (under 14, 16, 18). Coll captained the team and scored 22 goals.
Coll also served as a striker for three seasons on the Don Bosco’s Boys Club scoring 39 goals, including a debut hat trick. He led his team to the Liverpool Cup held in England during 2005 and received the Top Goal Scorer award after registering 14 goals in 19 games.
The midfielder also was selected as one of the 17 players to join the Derry City Academy, tallying six goals in his first season. Coll then was selected to play for Derry County in the 2007 Foyle Cup, which included teams such as Manchester United and Nottingham Forest, and scored one goal against FC Goteborf of Sweden in a three-match campaign.
“Declan is a big-time addition to our class,” comments LeBlanc. “We expect him to make an immediate impact on our program, the BIG EAST and nationally.”
The addition of Coll brings the incoming rookie class to 13. Coll joins Gary Clark (Harrisburg, Pa.), Nick Claudio (Charleston, W.Va.), Devin Colon (Spring, Texas), Kona Dennis (Reston, Va.), Brandon Fischetti (Monroeville, Pa.), Kurt Freemyer (Arlington, Va.), Raymon Gaddis (Indianapolis, Ind.), Ruben Garrido (Elkhart, Ind.), Connor Gorman (Philadelphia, Pa.), Adam Mills (Indianapolis, Ind.), Billy Noojin (Acworth, Ga.) and Michael Pitrolo (Parkersburg, W.Va.).
