Rowing: Mountaineers Qualify for Day Two

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., - The West Virginia University varsity four boat finished first in its heat to qualify for the semifinal round of the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday, May 9, 2008, in Philadelphia, Pa., on the Schuylkill River.
“All of the boats had good races today,” says Head Coach Jimmy King.“I feel good about their racing and the varsity fours chances in the semifinals.”
The varsity four boat of Caroline Rettig, Kim Benda, Alita Meyers, Brittany Brooks with coxswain Stephanie Brown crossed the line with a time of 7:32 to qualify for the semifinal round of competition on Saturday.
Also qualifying for the semifinal round of competition was the varsity pair of Meghann Ostrom and Stephanie Roof. The pair posted a third place finish with a time of 8:29.39.
The novice eight boat also qualified for the semifinal round of competition with a third-place finish with a time of 7:03.67.
Racing will continue on Saturday, May 10, at 7 a.m. with the semifinal round of competition.
