MORGANTOWN, W.Va., - The West Virginia University rowing team will complete its season with a trip to Philadelphia, Pa., on Friday, May 9, for the annual Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
This season the Mountaineers will enter into three events including the varsity four, varsity two and the novice eight boats.
“Given the size of competition at the Dad Vail Regatta, we can't really know what to expect in the smaller boat events such as the varsity four and varsity two boats,” said Head Coach Jimmy King. “In both varsity events, we want to simply focus on racing as best as we can in Friday's heats with the hope and the goal of advancing to Saturday morning's semi-finals.”
The varsity four boat will consist of Caroline Rettig, Kim Benda, Alita Meyers, Brittany Brooks with coxswain Stephanie Brown. Out of nine heats, the top two teams will qualify for the semi-finals on Saturday. Last season the varsity four boat posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 7:35.33.
This weekend will mark the first time the Mountaineers will be racing in the varsity two event this season. Meghann Ostrom and Stephanie Roof will represent the Mountaineers as the top three teams from each heat will qualify for the semifinal round.
The Dad Vail Regatta is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States. The weekend will feature over 100 colleges and universities from across the country and Canada.
