Rowing: Benda Earns National Scholar Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University rower Kim Benda has been named a National Scholar-Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Qualifications for this award include a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA, while also racing in 75% of the team's top boat during the spring racing season.
“Kim's work ethic and commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics truly exemplifies the ideal of the student-athlete,” said Head Coach Jimmy King. “In both areas Kim sets a high standard for our program which is merely a reflection of the high standard she sets for herself. I congratulate Kim on her outstanding efforts!"
Benda, a junior majoring in animal and nutritional sciences has made the dean's list each of her four semesters at WVU. She has also earned honors on the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll and the president's list.
This season, Benda raced in the top boat at every race. She was a member of the varsity four boat that placed second out of 28 at the Knecht Cup Regatta in Camden, N.J., and the varsity four boat that placed fourth out of 49 at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia.
