Track: Six WVU Athletes Qualify for Regional

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Six members of the West Virginia University track and field team have qualified for the NCAA East Regional, held May 30-31, at Mike Long Track in Tallahassee, Fla., where Florida State will serve as host.

Buckhannon, W.Va., native and 2008 BIG EAST hurdle champion Chelsea Carrier ranks 10th in the 100-meter hurdles heading into regionals with a time of 13.48.
Sophomore Keri Bland, a resident of Fairview, W.Va., and freshman Kaylyn Christopher, a Kingwood, W.Va., native will compete in the 1,500 meters. Bland shows a top time of 4:17.02 and ranks sixth in the region, while Christopher brings a season-best time of 4:27.54 into the race.
West Union, W.Va., native Clara Grandt will run the 5,000 meters and ranks 11th in the East region with a time of 16:28.57. Grandt may also qualify for the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships after winning the 10K ECAC Championship. The 10K is not an event at regionals.

Ripley, W.Va., native Alison Spiker has qualified in the 3,000m steeplechase with her top time of the year (10:47.55).
Finally, freshman Katelyn Williams sits seventh in the high jump with her season-high leap of 1.77 meters at the Penn Relays on April 24.
Field events get underway Friday, May 30, at 1 p.m. with the discus, while the running events start at 3:30 p.m.
The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three finishers in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 11-14.
