CINCINNATI – Cincinnati scored seven runs in the sixth inning and added two more in the seventh inning to turn a two-run deficit into a seven-run lead en route to a 14-9 victory over West Virginia, today, to end the regular season, completing the three-game sweep at Marge Schott Stadium.

In the Bearcats’ sixth inning, Tony Campana hit a one-out double down the right field line to plate Justin Riddell. Jamel Scott hit a two-RBI single to center to score Campana and Chris Peters to give UC its first lead of the game. Cameron Satterwhite’s bases-loaded two-RBI single scored Josh Harrison and Scott to give Cincinnati a three-run lead.
UC added two more runs to its lead in the seventh inning. Campana scored on Scott’s ground out to WVU’s Tyler Kuhn, and Harrison scored on a wild pitch. Campana reached on an infield single, stole second and reached third on failed pickoff attempt by Mountaineer pitcher Ross Fetterly. Harrison doubled down the left field line, advanced to third when Mike Spina flew out to center field.
Cincinnati (36-19, 19-8) scored 14 runs on 19 hits and committed three errors, while West Virginia (34-19, 13-14) scored nine runs on 15 hits and committed two errors.
Bearcat relief pitcher Adam Calez (4-2) earned the win, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and one walk. Mountaineer relief pitcher Eric Saffell (0-1) was credited with the loss, pitching one-third of an inning, giving up seven runs on six hits.
WVU starter Jordan Yost pitched five innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on nine hits, walking one and striking out one. UC’s starter Tyler Smith pitched two innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on two hits, walking four and striking out one.
Joe Agreste led the Mountaineers with three hits, Tobias Streich finished with two hits and two RBIs and Jedd Gyorko and Brent Lockhart each finished with two hits and an RBI.
Tony Campana led UC with a game-high four hits and three RBIs, while Jamel Scott and Cameron Satterwhite each had two hits and four RBIs. Ryan Baker and Justin Riddell finished with three hits and Josh Harrison had two hits.
The Mountaineers scored single runs in the first and second innings. Justin Parks walked to lead off the game, advanced to second when Kuhn walked, moved to third on Vince Belnome’s ground out to third base and scored on a wild pitch from Bearcat starter Tyler Smith.
In the second inning, Agreste walked to lead off the inning, advanced to second on s Streich’s sacrifice bunt and scored when Brent Lockhart reached on a fielding error by second baseman Scott. Campana reached on an infield single to second base to score Ryan Baker from third in the second inning to cut the WVU lead in half.
Both teams put a two-spot on the board in the third inning, giving the Mountaineers a 4-3 lead. Belnome walked, advanced to second and third on sacrifice bunts and scored on Lockhart’s infield single to short. Streich walked, advanced to second on Lockhart’s infield single and scored on Grant Buckner’s single through the right side. Satterwhite hit a two-run homer to right field to score Spina.
West Virginia scored two more runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead. Streich hit a ground-rule double down the left field line to score Austin Markel and pinch hitter Jordan Yost singled to left field to plate Agreste.
Streich hit an RBI single to score Agreste in the eighth inning, and Belnome hit an RBI single up the middle to score Parks in the ninth inning.
The Mountaineers are off until they travel to Clearwater, Fla., for the BIG EAST Conference Tournament at Bright House Field on May 20-24.
