MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University varsity four boat completed its season with a fourth-place finish at the Dad Vail Regatta today on the Schuykill River in Philadelphia, Pa.
“The Varsity four had a really good race today,” said Head Coach Jimmy King.“They felt that they went as fast as they could go today and that was fourth place.”
The team started the day off with a second-place showing in the semifinal round of competition with a time of 7:10.01 to qualify for the finals. Out of 50 teams, the boat of Caroline Rettig, Kim Benda, Alita Meyers, Brittany Brooks with coxswain Stephanie Brown went on to capture a fourth-place time of 7:26.94.
The varsity pair also had a good showing this weekend with a fifth-place finish in the semifinal rounds. The team of Meghann Ostrom and Stephanie Roof stopped the clock at 8:22.87, respectively.
“I am very pleased with how the varsity pair raced this weekend,” said King. “This was the first time they competed this season and their experience today was helpful to them when they return as juniors.”
Also competing this weekend was the novice eight boat who posted a sixth-place finish in the semifinal round of competition with a time of 7:04.12.
“Everyone performed very well this weekend,” said King. “It was a good way to end the season.”
