Rifle: Eskew Finishes Third at Junior Olympics

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia freshman shooter Brandi Eskew has earned a third-place finish at the 2008 National Junior Olympic Championships, in the air rifle event, in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Eskew finished day one of competition with a score of 393 and shot a 390 in day two action. She finished in seventh place overall, and advanced to the finals. The Petersburg, W.Va, native, went on to shoot a 102.3 out of 109 today for her third-place finish.
Competing in smallbore as well, Eskew finished day one of competition with a score of 575 out of 600. She shot six rounds with a potential of 100 points each. Eskew had 99 points in her first two slates, followed by 96, 93, and 94 in her final two rounds.
In today’s competition, Eskew shot a 572 and is currently waiting for the conclusion of the other shooters to see if she has finished in the top eight, to advance to the finals.
Eskew was named to the National Rifle Association (NRA) All-America first team after the West Virginia rifle team took sixth place at the 2008 NCAA Championships on March 19.
