MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team travels to Baltimore, Md., for its final non-conference match of the season against the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Monday, April 7, at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers (12-6, 2-1 BIG EAST) enter the final week of their regular season in which they head to Baltimore before playing three consecutive conference matches over the weekend at Villanova, Connecticut and Rutgers.
WVU is coming off a 7-0 victory over Presbyterian in its final home match. The win marked the fourth time WVU has shut out an opponent this season as it won all six singles matches as well as the three doubles matches.
At the doubles position, all three starting tandems own a .500 or better record as each pairing has steadily improved throughout the season. Stephanie LaFortune and Monica Lyskawa lead at No. 2 doubles with a 9-3 record and are coming off a sure-handed win over Waldron-Reece of Presbyterian, 8-3.
Senior Natalia Prinz was the first Mountaineer to attain double-digit wins in singles competition against Presbyterian. Prinz shows a 11-6 record at No. 3 singles and is 20-14 overall.
The Mountaineers have enjoyed a successful season outside of the BIG EAST, owning a 10-5 record against non-conference competition. They are 5-1 all-time against UMBC, winning their last match over the Retrievers (8-3, 1-1 American East) in the 2001-02 season, 4-3.
