MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The BIG EAST Conference announced its 2008-09 women’s basketball home and away schedule today.
West Virginia will once again face a 16-game league schedule, taking on eight league foes at the WVU Coliseum and eight BIG EAST opponents on the road. The league opted to maintain its same repeat opponents from last season, meaning WVU and Pitt will play twice for the second consecutive season.
At the WVU Coliseum, the Mountaineers will face: Cincinnati, Connecticut, Pitt, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, USF and Syracuse. Road opponents will be: DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pitt, Rutgers and Villanova.
The Mountaineers are 23-9 against BIG EAST competition in the last two seasons and 14-2 at the WVU Coliseum against league foes during that span.
West Virginia finished the 2007-08 season with a 25-8, 12-4 BIG EAST record, and a second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament’s second round. The Mountaineers finished the season ranked in the nation’s top 20 all season long for the first time in school history.
