MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Dan Hagey scored two goals as the West Virginia University soccer team defeated Marshall 3-0 in the final spring scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Schoenbaum Stadium in Charleston, W.Va.
Mo Travis beat a couple of Herd defenders down the sideline and then sent a low cross to Hagey for the game’s first goal in 18th minute. Hagey, a Ephrata, Pa., native struck again in the 58th minute as the Mountaineers strung a few passing combinations together before Paul Paradise was able to slip a ball through to an open Hagey for the finish.
Tony Lindroos tacked on an injury time goal in the 96th minute with an assist from Chase Dewese. Travis started the play by dribbling across the box before playing to Dewese. Dewese then passed on an open shot to feed Lindroos on the far post for the third goal.
WVU goalkeepers Ryan Chance and Zach Johnson combined to shut Marshall out. Chance played the first half, while Johnson was the net-minder for the final 45 minutes.
Both teams put on a free youth soccer clinic prior to the game and worked with nearly 100 kids.
