Track: Williams Wins High Jump at Penn Relays

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University track & field freshman Katelyn Williams won the college division high jump at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia this week.
The Chesterland, Ohio, native high-jumped 1.77 meters or 5-feet-9¾ inches Natasha Redman finished ninth after clearing a height of 1.64m.
Alexandra Acker was WVU’s other competitor in the field events. Acker placed 18th in the pole vault at 3.49 meters.
West Virginia did have success in its relays. The distance medley relay team of Kaylyn Christopher, Katelyn Williams, Karly Hamric and Keri Bland set an outdoor school record with a time of 11:19.81.
The 4x400 relay placed 33rd at 3:47.61. The relay was run by April Rotilio, Halimah Bashir, Chelsea Carrier and Brittany Hohn. The same group ran the 4x100 meter relay to a 37th- place finish at 47.28.
Carrier also ran the 100-meter hurdles and placed 22nd with a time of 14.23, while Bashir competed in the 400 intermediate hurdles and took 41st (1:04.64).
West Virginia returns to action at the 2008 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 2-4, in Philadelphia.
