MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Alex Yost led the West Virginia men’s soccer team with two goals as the Mountaineers defeated IUPUI, 4-2, today in Indianapolis, Ind.
IUPUI scored two quick goals in the first 10 minutes to take the lead in the first half, before Yost scored his first goal of the game off of an offensive passing sequence that landed on Yost’s foot who put it away.
Down 2-1 heading into the second half, Sean Brooks got fouled just outside IUPUI’s box. The set piece found Chase Dewese who hit a left footed shot into IUPUI’s net from the corner, to knot the score at two.
In the 61st minute Yost scored his second goal of the game, a volley from just outside the 18 yard line, to put WVU up, 3-2.
With the clock winding down, Tony Lindroos sailed a cross inside the box to Paul Paradise, who hit a high volley past the IUPUI keeper, and give the Mountaineers the 4-2 victory.
“I thought the kids played well today,” comments Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc. “Hopefully we can get some of the players healthy before the game on Saturday against Marshall.”
WVU will close its spring season on Saturday, April 26, when the Mountaineers play in-state rival Marshall in Charleston, W.Va. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
