MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University baseball team will play host to Duquesne on Tuesday, April 15, at Hawley Field. The game has been deemed Dollar Day as all tickets and select concessions will be available for $1 each. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Tuesday’s game will mark the 73rd meeting in program history between Duquesne (15-15, 10-2 Atlantic) and WVU (26-9, 7-5 BIG EAST), a series which began in 1915. The Mountaineers lead the series 64-8, but fell to the Dukes, 14-12, at Hawley Field on March 13, 2007.
Duquesne swept La Salle in three games this past weekend. Junior Mike Carroll leads the Dukes with a .402 batting average, registering 35 hits, including 10 doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 22 RBIs. Senior first baseman Aaron Janusey has 25 RBIs and 33 hits, including nine doubles, two triples and six home runs.
Paul Bugajski (3-3) will most likely pitch for the Dukes. The right-hander has an ERA of 6.80, allowing 38 runs and 55 hits, while striking out 29 and walking 18.
The Mountaineers currently have six sluggers hitting .400 or above. Senior Tyler Kuhn leads the team with 24 extra base hits, including six home runs, while sophomore Vince Belnome leads the squad with 51 RBIs.
On the mound, the Mountaineers will likely look to senior Matt Yurish (2-1) who has a 5.62 ERA, allowing 28 runs and 35 hits, while striking out 39 and walking 24. Sophomore Chris Enourato, who leads the team with six saves, will be counted on as WVU’s closer.
