Tennis: Mountaineers Defeat UConn

MORGANTOWN. W.Va. - The West Virginia University tennis team defeated the University of Connecticut, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon in Storrs, Conn.
The Mountaineers (14-7, 4-1 BIG EAST) won seven of nine matches to earn the decisive conference win. WVU dominated in singles competition, winning five of six matches to cruise over the Huskies (9-6, 4-5 BIG EAST).
Seniors Stacey Percival and Natalia Prinz each won two matches for the second consecutive match. The tandem won at No 1 doubles, 9-8, over LoRusso-Herb.
Percival earned a victory over Kelly LoRusso, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to continue her hot stretch as the regular season concludes. Prinz followed with a victory over BreAnn Cheung, 6-2, 2-6, 10-6.
Top doubles tandem Monica Lyskawa and Stephanie LaFortune defeated Porter-Campitiello at No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Lyskawa beat Emily Herb at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
Junior Colleen Speaker’s solid season at No. 4 singles continued with a victory over Jessica Porter, 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Ashley Pilsbury capped the successful match with a victory over Alison Koch at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
WVU returns to action with its last match of the regular season against BIG EAST foe Rutgers on Sunday, April 13, at noon in Piscataway, N.J.
