MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team will play host to Purdue on Sunday, April 13, as part of the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is scheduled for noon.
“We are excited to face the Big Ten champions on Sunday. Playing a strong and established program like Purdue will allow us to see where we are in our spring progress,” says Head Coach Nikki Izzo-Brown.
Purdue, playing in its final spring outing, is coming off its finest season in program history. Under Head Coach Rob Klatte, the Boilermakers produced a pair of All-Americans en route to winning their first Big Ten title.
“Our ladies will also be wearing pink for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center Soccer Invitational,” says Izzo-Brown. “The game is a nice way to finalize our efforts in raising money and bringing awareness for such a worthy cause.”
Sunday's game is the second half of WVU's effort this spring to help kick breast cancer. On March 2, more than 60 teams competed in West Virginia’s annual 4-versus-4 tournament to raise funds for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center. This fall WVU will present Betty Puskar with a check for the money raised during the current spring season, adding to the $26,000 raised over the past four years.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a game with Canada’s U-17 National Team on Tuesday, April 15, at Dick Dlesk. WVU’s game with Team Canada is separate from the regularly scheduled five spring contests allotted by the NCAA.
