MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University rowing team will travel to Camden, N.J., on Saturday, April 12, for the Knecht Cup on Cooper River.
The two day event will feature over 50 schools from across the country including teams from Cincinnati and Villanova.
“One of the primary benefits of competing in a large regatta such as the Knecht Cup is the opportunity to race multiple times in one day,” said Head Coach Jimmy King. “Our young program will gain much needed racing experience this weekend with some rowers possibly going to the line as many as six times over the course of the day.”
Last weekend, the varsity four squad finished first against Dayton and Duquesne. The varsity eight boat also had a good showing placing second behind Dayton with a time of 8:33.5.
This will be the Mountaineers’ seventh trip to the Knecht Cup since 2002. Last season the varsity four and the novice four boats both qualified for the Grand Finals. The varsity four boat took fifth, while the novice four boat crossed the line in sixth place.
