MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia men’s soccer team fell to American 1-0, tonight, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in the squad’s final home match of the spring season.
With just two minutes to go in the first half, American scored the lone goal of the match when Colin Zizzi hit a sharp shot from just inside the box, which slipped past the diving reach of WVU goalkeeper Ryan Chance, to put American on the board and produce the final margin.
The Mountaineers dominated most of the second half, and out-shot AU, but could not find the back of the net.
“We have a lot of injuries and we’re thin on numbers,” commented Head Coach Marlon LeBlanc. “The kids who did play worked really hard, but unfortunately we just didn’t have enough depth tonight.”
WVU will continue its spring season on Saturday, April 12, when they take on Real Maryland FC, a United Soccer League Division II Professional team, at the Maryland Soccerplex in Boyds, Md. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
