Mischler almost found the net herself moments later on a pass from junior forward Deana Everrett. Everrett pulled the goalkeeper off her line and Mischler’s shot was saved by a Roma Calcio teammate.
West Virginia started the second half with several scoring opportunities, including a header just wide right from junior midfielder Michelle Molinari.
In the 59th minute, Blank netted her second goal of the match. Junior midfielder Lisa DuCote delivered a perfect corner kick to the 7-yard line where Blank headed home her second score to put the Mountaineers up 2-0.
West Virginia nearly added to its lead in the 72nd minute when freshman forward Cassandra Deitrick’s shot belted off the right post and back across the goal line.
WVU goalkeepers Kerri Butler and Mallory Beck each worked 45 minutes in the shutout.
WVU is 3-0 during its spring break tour to Czech Republic and Italy. The final match is slated for Friday, March 28, against Villaputzu.
