Baseball: Kuhn Garners Two More Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Senior shortstop Tyler Kuhn has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Hitter of the Week, as well as a member of the College Baseball Foundation’s National All-Star Lineup for his efforts this past week.
Kuhn, the BIG EAST Player of the Week, led the Mountaineers to an 8-1 week with a 16-for-31 (.561) performance at the plate, with 18 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He hit five home runs, three doubles and a pair of triples to finish the week with a 1.1226 slugging percentage.
The Louisville, Ky., native finished with three hits, blasted a career-high two home runs and drove in a career-high seven runs, to lead WVU to a 21-3 win over St. Bonaventure, on March 12. Kuhn then finished with four RBIs in game one of a doubleheader against Iona, 7-2, in a seven-inning game and 12-2 in a nine-inning contest, on March 15. He finished the doubleheader with four hits, four runs, one home run and a triple.
Kuhn finished the eight-game week with three hits in game four against Iona, matching his career-high with two home runs and driving in five runs to lead West Virginia to a 17-1 victory.
Next up, the Mountaineers will open the 2008 BIG EAST slate on Thursday, March 20, for a three-day series against Pitt. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
