MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnast Amy Bieski has been named the EAGL Rookie of the Week after her performance in a home quad meet against No. 24 Minnesota, New Hampshire and Rutgers on March 15.
The Nanticoke, Pa., native put together a career-high effort as an all-arounder, scoring 39.275 points to become the individual meet champion. Bieski also won the floor exercise with a 9.875 and helped the Mountaineers post their highest score (196.175) since the 2004 EAGL Championships. The 5-foot-7 freshman currently ranks third in the league on floor with a 9.870 regional qualifying score.
Bieski earns the award for the second consecutive week and fifth time this season. NC State’s Leigha Hancock earned her third EAGL Gymnast of the Week award, while Maryland’s Michele Brenner was named EAGL Specialist of the Week.
The Mountaineers return to action against Ohio State on “Senior Day” Saturday, March 22, at the WVU Coliseum at 7 p.m. The meet will also be a Dollar Day, meaning all tickets and select concessions will be $1 each.
West Virginia (16-7, 9-0) enters Saturday’s dual meet defeating 11 straight opponents since falling to LSU and Auburn in Baton Rouge, La., on Feb. 8.
