MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team will hold a “Pink Out” meet against No. 24 Minnesota, New Hampshire and Rutgers Saturday, March 15, at the WVU Coliseum at 7 p.m.
West Virginia will wear pink leotards and those in attendance are encouraged to also wear pink to help increase breast cancer awareness. This is the third year that the Mountaineers will be holding a pink meet and the gymnasts have fundraised close to $5,000 over the past two years for the Betty Puskar Breast Care Center.
West Virginia (13-7, 7-0 EAGL) has been performing well as of late since its fifth meet of the year against Penn State on Feb. 2. WVU scored 195.150 points in an upset of the Nittany Lions in University Park, Pa., and followed that effort with 195.275 points in a home victory over North Carolina on Feb. 15. The Mountaineers enter Saturday’s quad meet defeating eight straight opponents since falling to LSU and Auburn in Baton Rouge, La.
WVU gymnasts Amy Bieski and Chelsi Tabor were recognized by the EAGL for their routines last week at George Washington. Bieski picked up EAGL Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this year, while Tabor earned the EAGL Specialist of the Week award for the first time in her career.
West Virginia’s regional qualifying score (RQS) is 194.140. The 24th-ranked Golden Gophers enter the meet with an RQS of 194.495, while New Hampshire is at 192.960. Rutgers has an RQS of 188.705.
WVU is 4-5 all-time against Minnesota, 20-7 versus UNH and 42-0 in meetings with Rutgers. The Mountaineers are 3-1 in home meets this season.
This is the first of three straight home meets for WVU. Senior day, scheduled for March 22, is also Dollar Day, meaning all tickets and select concessions will be $1 each. On March 29, West Virginia will host the 2008 EAGL Championships at 4 p.m., to end the regular season.
