MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Marie-Louise Asselin and the West Virginia University distance medley relay (DMR) squad have qualified for the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 14-15.
Asselin qualified after ranking eighth in the country this season in the 3,000m with a time of 9:14.48 and won the BIG EAST Championship in the event on Feb. 24.
“Marie-Louise has strung together one of the best seasons in West Virginia track & field history,” Head Coach Sean Cleary says. “She will have the opportunity to further establish herself as one of the best distance runners in the country.”
The distance medley relay squad featuring April Rotilio (400m), Karly Hamric (800m), Keri Bland (1,200m) and Asselin (1,600m) ranked 12th in the NCAA this season with a time of 11:13.14. WVU has had a nationally successful DMR squad in recent years.
“This marks the eighth time in the last 10 years that we have qualified for the NCAA Championships in the DMR,” Cleary says. “We take great pride in this event and are very pleased to qualify again this year. This unit is comprised of two freshmen, one sophomore and one junior and will be a great opportunity for each of these young ladies.”
