Women's Basketball: Big East Cites Owens

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia's LaQuita owens was named Big East player of the week after her back-to-back 20-point performances helped West Virginia to a pair of wins over Rutgers and Seton Hall last week.
Owens helped lead West Virginia to its biggest win in school history, a 63-54 victory over No. 4/4 Rutgers on Jan. 29, and a 70-42 road win at Seton Hall on Feb. 3. Owens averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 35.5 minutes per game last week.
For the week, she shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26) and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from 3-point range. The senior guard scored a season-high 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting with four 3-pointers against the Scarlet Knights.
In the win at Seton Hall, Owensnotched 20 points, including connecting on a career-high tying six 3-pointers, with six rebounds, three assists and two steals. She has tallied three consecutive 20-point plus games for WVU. The weekly award is Owens' second of her career.
West Virginia, 18-3, returns to action this Saturday playing at Providence in a game that will tip at 2 pm.
