Baseball At The Beach Game Notes
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The West Virginia Mountaineers (2-2) will play in the Baseball at the Beach Tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Feb. 29-March 2.
WVU will face Western Carolina (2-1) at 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 29. The Mountaineers will then play in-state rival Marshall (1-2) at noon before facing tournament host Coastal Carolina (4-1) at 4 p.m., on Saturday. On Sunday, WVU faces George Mason (0-3) on at 11:30 a.m.
Freshman catcher Tobias Streich leads the Mountaineers with a .455 average through his first four games. Streich is the lone Mountaineer to have two multiple-hit games and is on a three-game hitting streak.
WVU split a four-game series against Akron in Winston-Salem, N.C. this past weekend to open the 2008 campaign. The Mountaineers fell in game one, 5-1, before completing the doubleheader sweep on Saturday, 11-3 and 2-1. West Virginia dropped the fourth game, 3-2, against the Zips, to even their record at 2-2.
The team returns to Morgantown for its season home-opener at Hawley Field against Duquesne on Tuesday, March 4, at 3 p.m.
