Gymnastics: No. 23 WVU Travels to EAGL Foe Rutgers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team travels to Piscataway, N.J., to face Rutgers, Bridgeport, Rhode Island and Ursinus in a five-team meet at the Livingston Recreation Center Saturday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m.
West Virginia (6-7, 3-0) is coming off an upset of No. 19 North Carolina last week, 195.275-195.075. The Mountaineers were led by junior Erica Watson’s career-high 39.325 points and junior Mehgan Morris’ career-high 39.200 points in the all-around. Watson was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week, while freshman Amy Bieski earned her third EAGL Rookie of the Week honor.
The Mountaineers moved into the Top 25 of the GymInfo poll this week at 23rd. At this point in the season, the rankings are now determined by a regional qualifying score (RQS). West Virginia’s RQS currently is 193.155, which ranks second in the EAGL.
Rutgers is the highest ranked of the four opponents this weekend at 44th, averaging 187.729 points per meet. The Scarlet Knights are members of the EAGL.
Bridgeport averages 184.691 points and Ursinus has averaged 183.746 points per meet. Rhode Island is at a 166.858 point average this season.
The Mountaineers are 41-0 all-time against Rutgers, 24-0 against Rhode Island and 1-0 versus both Bridgeport and Ursinus.
