Rifle: WVU To Face VMI And Shoot NCAA Qualifier

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The West Virginia University rifle team will play host to Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, Feb. 16, beginning at 8 a.m. in the WVU Rifle Range. The match against the Keydets will also serve as the 2008 NCAA qualifying match.
The top eight teams in the country will make the NCAA Tournament to be held March 15-16, at West Point Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. The Mountaineer’s score of Saturday’s match will be added to the average of their three other highest scoring matches of the season, which are required to be held at three different venues.
The Mountaineers will factor into their qualifying score wins over Ohio State on Oct. 14, Alaska-Fairbanks on Jan. 18, and Tennessee Tech on Jan. 27. The average score of those three matches is 4,621.
The Mountaineers are currently 7-3 on the season and are on a three-match win streak. Last season, WVU downed VMI 4566-4370.
