MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team will battle undefeated and current East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) leader No. 19 North Carolina on Friday, Feb. 15, at the WVU Coliseum at 8 p.m.
West Virginia (5-7, 2-0 EAGL) averages 192.679 points per meet, while the Tar Heels (9-0, 5-0 EAGL) come into Friday’s meet averaging 194.342 points per competition.
The Mountaineers scored 192.750 points last week in a pair of losses at No. 7 LSU. LSU totaled 197.050 points and No. 15 Auburn scored 195.475 points. West Virginia’s Mehgan Morris ranks atop the EAGL on the uneven bars with a 9.796 average, while also ranking third on the floor exercise at 9.804.
UNC posted a season-high 195.450 last week in a victory against rival NC State. North Carolina ranks 15th on floor exercise, 19th on vault, 21st on uneven bars and 22nd on balance beam, nationally. All-around sophomore Christine Nguyen leads the Heels and has been named EAGL Gymnast of the Week the last two weeks.
The Mountaineers lead the all-time series, 21-13, and won all three meetings last season including a 194.775-193.875 win at the 2007 NCAA Southeast Regional.
