Gymnastics: WVU to Face #14 Penn State

MEET NOTES
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team will face No. 14 Penn State in a dual meet Saturday, Feb. 2, at Rec Hall in University Park, Pa., at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers (4-5, 2-0 EAGL) are currently averaging 192.044 points per competition and are coming off a second-place finish in a home quad meet last week, scoring 192.700 points.
After their performances last week, gymnasts Mehgan Morris and Shelly Purkat picked up weekly league honors. Morris was named the EAGL Gymnast of the Week, while Purkat earned her second consecutive EAGL Specialist of the Week award.
The 14th-ranked Nittany Lions average 194.592 points per meet and have a season-high score of 195.100 in 2008. PSU’s two strongest events are the uneven bars (48.767 avg.) and floor (48.792 avg.). They rank 12th in the nation in both events.
Penn State leads the all-time series 30-5 since the two schools first met in 1979.
PSU will start on vault, while West Virginia will start on bars in the first rotation.
