MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Alex Ruoff was named Big East player of the week, the conference announced Monday morning.
Ruoff scored a career-high 38 points in West Virginia’s 89-54 victory over Radford including a school-record nine 3-point field goals. Four days later, Ruoff scored 17 points to lead West Virginia to a 76-48 victory over 15th-ranked Ohio State Saturday afternoon in Columbus.
It was West Virginia’s biggest victory over a ranked team on the road, topping WVU’s 25-point win at No. 6 NYU in 1952.
Ruoff is presently 13th in the Big East in scoring at 17 points per game. He also ranks second in the league in steals per game (2.2), second in 3-point field goals made per game (3.3) and is 12th in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (.402).
West Virginia (10-2) opens Big East play on Saturday at Seton Hall in a 4 pm game that will be televised on the Big East Television Network and will air locally on FSN-Pittsburgh.
