MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- West Virginia University football player quotes:
Brandon Hogan
Looking at it from a coach’s point of view, I guess they are happy with me because I haven’t been getting into too much trouble. I stepped in and I did a good job.
From my own point of view, I feel like I could have done a lot of things better, do the little things and maybe worked a little harder to make my game better, but I think the whole season went well for me and I think I did alright.
I’m a defensive player now. I have a lot to build on and a lot has happened this year that will help me next year for what I have to do next year on defense. I surprised myself a little bit because I thought that coming to defense would be very hard, but this is what the coaches saw to switch me over to defense that I couldn’t see. Everything is working.
You have to give it to the coaches. It’s their defense and they put it in. They get the players that they think fit their defense and they put us in there. They got all of the wrinkles and bumps out, we just went along with it and the defense ran right.
It’s going to be a fun year next year. We’re going to be ready next year. Don’t think West Virginia fell off. We had a great season this year and we’re ready for our Bowl game.
Pat McAfee
It’s been all over the place and I don’t think it’s possible to put it in words. I’ve had a great time and I have enjoyed myself. I would probably go back and change some things if I could but I’ve enjoyed myself here and I think I’m ready to move on. I’m ready to see what the next chapter of my life is going to be.
I think all of us have grown up. When you first come in here, you are an 18-year old kid. That is exactly how I was and I had a really great chance to redshirt and mature off the field. I think everyone has seen me mature ever since I’ve been playing and ever since I got here. I think I’ve noticed it in myself and I think other people have, too. I’m a more mature person now. I have a great time joking around but I think I look at things differently now than I used to.
My mind set for games and practices is completely different than what it used to be. I used to take things for granted, I think, and I really don’t do that anymore. I just try to make the most of every opportunity.
Sidney Glover
Now that you look at the season and it’s almost over, and we still have the Bowl game, but we made it through the season, we did pretty well, and a lot of people progressed. After this game, not to look too forward, but I’m excited about next year. Our team being so young and next year, having experience under our belt, will be even more exciting for us.
On Brandon Hogan
I’ve been excited for him because we have a lot of sophomores in our class. He’s like a best friend to me and we’re like brothers. I’m happy for him and he has developed a lot. I’m excited that we’ll be playing together next year.
I think as far as the coaches’ game-plan, they didn’t really treat us as young guys, even though we were young. I think we handled it and as a young defense, we had our lumps and we handled it well and we became players.
Ellis Lankster
We have to put eight in the box and play man.
North Carolina is a very good team. They have so many athletes that we’re going to try to shut down in order to come out with the win. Coach (David) Lockwood has prepared us very well.
I think turnovers will be very important. The defense needs to force turnovers so we can keep the ball in Pat White’s hands. As long as we keep the ball in Pat White’s hands, we should come out with the win. Fumble recoveries are also really important.
Pat White
They are an ACC school and they are a lot better than what they’ve been in the past couple years. They have definitely turned around and they are an up and coming program.
We have plays for every coverage and we have plays for every front. When you are playing any defense, it’s all about executing.
It would be a great feeling to leave the field with my teammates with a win, and to end my career with a win, and we’ll see what happens.
On Senior Bowl
I’m definitely excited about that. It’s a dream come true because I grew up watching the Senior Bowl, going to practices between the games and I’m happy about the opportunity and thankful for it.
