MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- West Virginia University football player quotes following Tuesday afternoon's practice:
Robert Sands
On being a true freshman
It’s hard because I have a lot of assignments so it’s getting a little hectic but we have a great staff here working with me and I’m doing well on the field.
On Cincinnati
I’m impressed with what I’ve seen so far on film. The quarterback isn’t afraid to throw the ball. They aren’t afraid to run the ball so if we don’t stop the run they are going to constantly run the ball, so we are going to have to stop it.
Brandon Hogan
On the similarities between Cincinnati and UConn
There are some similarities. They have a lot of open sets. They have great receivers who are fast and they have some shake to them.
On making the transition from offense to defense
I’m just trying to learn as much as I can and ask a lot of questions. I always ask Coach Lockwood questions when I don’t know things and I try to better myself. I didn’t talk to the defensive guys that much when I was on offense so now I ask the guys questions and they tell me if I’m doing stuff wrong. Everyone looks out for each other. Sometimes I still feel like I play offense because I can still do some things.
Noel Devine
On Cincinnati’s defense
Cincinnati looks really good. They have two corners who everyone thinks will be playing in the NFL on Sundays and their whole defense gets to the ball. It looks like they are a little faster than UConn.
On Dorrell Jalloh
Jalloh wasn’t really known and no one knew about him. Then we started passing the ball and he stepped up, and they found out that they had to respect him also. That is a deeper threat in our offense.
Sydney Glover
On night games
I don’t know what they do for me but it’s just the excitement of being home and being with our fans. I’m happy to be home and it’s a good atmosphere to be in this Saturday.
On Anthony Leonard
As a whole defense, he’s doing well filling in and doing the things we need him to do. He is playing his role right now.
On the growth of the defense through the season
One of the biggest things that we’ve turned around is tackling. We didn’t tackle very well at all in the ECU game. There were a lot of plays on defense where we were in the right position to make the tackle but we just didn’t make it.
