Women's Soccer: Three Honored

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Three West Virginia women’s soccer players were named to the TopDrawerSoccer’s Team of the Season yesterday. Midfielder Carolyn Blank, defender Greer Barnes and forward Deana Everrett were three of 36 players in all of Division I soccer named to the annual Team of the Season.
Blank was named a TopDrawerSoccer First Team midfielder following a stellar junior season for the Mountaineers. A First Team All-BIG EAST selection, Blank was also named the conference’s Midfielder of the Year this season. A Toms River, N.J., native, Blank has started all 21 games at defensive midfield, totaling 12 points on five goals and two assists.
Earning TopDrawerSoccer Second Team defender honors is Barnes, a First Team All-BIG EAST player for the second straight season. A Rye, N.Y., native, Barnes has helped the Mountaineer defense tie the school record for shutouts with 13. The outside back has started all 21 games, getting into the offensive attack with two goals and one assist.
Everrett was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Third Team in her final season in Morgantown. The senior leads the Mountaineers in assists with eight, to go with five goals for 18 points. An Oakville, Ontario, native, Everrett has started 20 games this season, taking home All-BIG EAST Second Team accolades.
TopDrawerSoccer honors 36 players in three 12-person teams for its version of national All-America recognition. Freshmen are not eligible for the Team of the Season, only the 24-player All-Rookie Team.
The 12th-ranked WVU women’s soccer team begins its quest for the 2008 NCAA College Cup against Princeton in the opening round of NCAA tournament Friday, Nov. 14, at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.
